A Platinum Seal of Transparency on Candid (formerly GuideStar) is the highest level of recognition a nonprofit organization can earn. It shows that the charity is deeply committed to accountability, as they publicly share detailed metrics about their measurable impact, strategies, and leadership.
What it means
To achieve the Platinum status, an organization must pass through all previous tiers (Bronze, Silver, and Gold) and fulfill specific, rigorous requirements:
- Measurable Impact: They must share clear Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and data year-over-year to show exactly how their programs are making a difference.
- Goals & Strategies: They must outline their strategic plans and long-term goals for the future.
- Board Demographics: They must publicly share demographic breakdowns of their board of directors (e.g., race, gender identity, etc.).
- Basic & Financial Information: They must already have uploaded their mission, contact details, leadership information, and verified financial reports.
Why it matters
- Exceptional Credibility: Fewer than 1% of all U.S.-based nonprofits reach the Platinum level. It indicates an organization goes far beyond basic compliance.
- More Trust: Donors and institutional grant makers rely heavily on Candid profiles to evaluate charities, knowing exactly how funds are translated into results.
- Increased Visibility: Nonprofits with a Candid seal receive significantly more profile views and higher average contributions than those without.
